From Ajaccio, take the direction of Propriano. During the trip, take a break at Petreto Bicchisano. You will admire the Dolmen of Settiva, which is supposed to be a funeral monument. Also you will see the Genovese bridge of Abra. From the village, you can see the Monte San Petru.
After this break, prepare yourself to a fascinating visit: Filitosa.

Filitosa is a very unique and exceptional site, at the heart of prehistoric research in Corsica. Megalithic monuments and anthropomorphic sculptures are the witnesses of this time, that no one has really discovered the mystery. Today, Filitosa is one of the most important prehistoric sites of the Mediterranean area. It has been classified as historical monument.  But let’s hit the road again, you are not too far from Propriano.

Facing the gulf of the Valinco, Propriano is an expanding city, thanks to the performing road network of South Corsica.
Its harbor is the main touristic attraction; also, the church Notre-Dame de la Miséricorde is a must. Watch out and be careful, you might find some remains on the island of Poraja, once again witnessing of the past.

Then, follow the road to the tower of Micalona. It is a restored tower, from the Genovese period: nowadays, it is a masterpiece of traditional stone constructions.

The forest of Chiavari is well preserved: as many other sites in Corsica, the forest is a mix of oaks and pine trees. A penitentiary is also in the forest. It is now part of the cultural heritage of the region.

To finish this route, you’ll go to the “most Corsican town among the Corsican ones” as Prosper Mérimée described it : Sartene.
Make a stop at the Place de la Libération, visit the old town and its museum. If you are lucky to be in Sartene in May, you’ll enjoy 4 days of carnival, so don’t forget your costume…

It’s already the end of the day, and you have to go back to Ajaccio…
